Open Question: The title of a middle school book.?

Hey guys. Maybe you can help me. I remember reading this book in middle school, and every I remember is that the protagonist, a boy, was bored and he went on a walk and found this wall that was an illusion and walked through it to find a home where every the seasons happened in one day, everyday, and in the back of the home there was a pond with fish, which turned out to be the kids that went to the home. The protagonist found a pal who was about to become a fish, and had to keep him. And there was a housekeeper, and a creepy man with a wide grin. That's about every I remember about it. Oh, I remember reading "gaping maw" or something like that. About the pond. Thanks :) Sorry it's every over the place.

Open Question: Do tomboys have a higher capacity to be smarter than regular girls?

I read a book once that stated that boys are naturally smarter than girls because of many various characteristics. So then would tomboys typically just as smart as regular boys and smarter than girls? When I say smart, I mean in terms of academically, such as mathematics, and such. I want answers from those who are knowledgeable in this field only, and not from people of the general public whom have not read up on this.

Open Question: How much do you think it would it cost altogether to renovate this farmhouse?

I'm 13 years old and I'm writing a book for fun. My character just inherited an old abandoned farmhouse and she wants to renovate it. How much do you think it would cost in the end to fix everything? And what would need to be done to make it liveable? Here's a few paragraphs about it: Kathryn O’Reilly’s green eyes scanned her new bedroom. It was old, and showed definite signs of abandonment. The ugly yellow paint behind the piles of moving boxes was chipping off the walls, wide, long cracks were forming on the ceiling, and the disgusting carpet had a big array of unidentifiable stains. The aged, green window shutters looked like they were more fitting for an old haunted home rather than an abandoned farmhouse, and she suspected that if she tried to close them they would most likely fall off into the bushes below. The room, as well as the relax of the home, smelled mouldy and wet. She left the bedroom and sauntered down the cramped corridor to the kitchen. It had no appliances, just a few cupboards with the doors falling off its rusty hinges, and a long countertop made of cracked tiles and damaged wood. Like the bedroom, the kitchen ceiling had many narrow cracks. The hardwood floor was somewhat dented, with a few planks protruding out of the otherwise decent floor. She then opened the door leading into the living room. It was a decent size, with ceiling cracks and old flooring quite similar to that of the kitchen. She meandered over to the decrepit fireplace and inspected the inside. The bottom of it had a layer of ashes dating back to who-knows-when, and besides a few chips in the bricks and rock mantle, it was in good enough shape. It had 3 big ceiling-to-floor windows looking out over the deserted landscape, which consisted of yellow and green grass, big black ash and apple trees, and a narrow gravel road at the end of the long, winding steer way. There were no neighbours for miles. Just the way she liked it. Thanks in advance!

Open Question: Apollo 10 average space travelling speed?

For those who don't know Apollo 10 was spacecraft sent on May 18, 1969. It mission was to prepare for Apollo 11 the first man landing on the moon. Now in the Guinness book of world record it state that Apollo 10 set the record for the highest speed attained by a manned vehicle at 39,897 km/h (11.08 km/s or 24,791 mph) during the return from the Moon. Wat i want to know is wat was it average speed and did it take stopping period and also with the new technologies how quick are we able to go now. every this is to calculate how long it would take us to travel to other planet or even other galaxies ( obcourse this doesn't take into consideration that the icy burn out the motor faster or that it actually freezes and cease working entirely ).

Open Question: What do you think of this poem and the message it gives?

I read this poem in a book and I absolutely loved it. Do you like it too? Give me your opinions on the message it gives. High up in a nest, way over the trees, Sits a stately dad eagle talking with his progenies. The smallest asked a question that caught his dad unaware, But the dad saw a chance to tutor and listened to his heir. "Why cant I be a sparrow, living closer to the ground?" "Why must I soar so high, where there is not a sound?" "The bustle of the world below seems so exciting, To be around their nice would be rather inviting." The dad listened passionately and then his wisdom he did share, Just as the pair flew off together into the open air. "If a sparrow would ascend to here, what do you think they'd look?" The eaglet listened carefully and did not disagree. The truth is that they wouldn’t look much," his dad did explain. "Because the sparrows eyesight is needy, they'd be out in vain." "But you and I can soar on high and clearly look below, The beauty of this wide, wide world and every it has to show." "God gave us keen eyes and wide open skies, So like who you are for in this there's a prize." "Those with great vision have a much wider world to explore, Than those whose short-sighted view always leaves them wanting more."

Open Question: Could you please help me with a couple of questions?

Ok so my pal and I are starting to receive ready for solo ensemble. We want to do a piano duet, preferably in C music we might want to try the a little bit of B but, we would rather have C. If you could find us a name and website for a great duet that would be great. If you don't have the website then I would like the name of the book and the possible price range for it. I would also like to know if "The Meadow" by Alexandre Desplat is a class C or B music for my piano solo. I have practiced it and am thinking about doing that one. Some other things I would like to know are the rating on the Nook which comes from Barns and Nobles. If you could receive me a price for that too it would be nice. I would like to know what books arrive with it already because it said when you buy it, it has some books already on it. I am reading a lot lately. I want to know what you suggest me to read. It has to be either young adults or adults. Sorry I have a lot of questions but, I am going back to school shopping soon and I want to know what stores you suggest for me. The only way you can receive the best answer from me is if you answer the most questions out of everyone. Thanks!

Open Question: Serious about writing a novel; Help with some questions I have, please?

Hello, I am currently in the process of writing a novel and have been working on it for a few months now. I wish someone out there will be able to answer a few of the questions I have concerning what I should do next (or later on...). So far I have 70 pages of size 12, Calibri text. I have much more to write, but I wondered if perhaps there is a certain word count I should be shooting for? Or a good number of pages? I wonder this because when I look at the page on my computer, I consider that perhaps when (should it ever be printed out) it's in a book, would it be the same amount of pages or much more/less? Also, I was wondering if someone could instruct me or give me some tips as of where to go from here? I am not done the novel but I wondered if perhaps I should send what I have to someone (if so, who? How?) and look what they think before continuing? No matter their opinion, I will finish the story, but I wasn't sure if a publisher would like it every together or look what I can offer first? Anyways, any helpful information or tips would be fantastic. I do wish you know that I am completely serious, and that I truly do want to take this further. I think I have a significant edge to offer young adult readers. Thanks for any and every help.

Open Question: Jodi Picoult- Nineteen Minutes and The Pact?

I don't why, but when I read The Pact after Nineteen Minutes I though the book was so similar. It kinda annoyed me. Like how they both receive their guns from their hunting dads. And how in the end, the person who shot, is the person you didnt think it was gonna be. Kinda the same twist in the end. How they have the same lawyer. I mean I adore both books, but I think i would've like the Pact more if i didnt read it right after. Anyone agree?Same thing happen to you? Reasons why or why not? Other books that do that by her? i still loove Picoult as a writer though..

Open Question: Please help with my story?

Here it is: Chapter 1 I stood back to stare at the room. The desk was polished and my old lamp sat on the left for my homework, The pink fluffy carpet was hovered and looking new, My bookshelf hung from the wall not quite straight but straight enough to keep by shiny new books on and my bed was looking, well, full; It had 30 teddies on it at least. I picked up my notepad and pencil from my desk and walked over to my bed; Not bothering to move the stuffed animals before jumping onto it. In my mind I did a check list of everything I had to do before I was aloud to draw. Homework -check Clean room- check Make bed-check I smiled as I flipped over the front page and looked at my drawings. I thought about the first time I had ever drawn in the notepad; I was 4 and the first drawing was rather sloppy compared to the latest of my drawings. It showed me at the carnival next to the bumper cars. My dad must have seen my drawings because I did go to the carnival that very night. I skipped the forward a few pages until there was only white. I looked at my pencil it was sharp enough so I began to draw. I never knew what I was planning to draw I just drew. The floor was tiled with light blue slabs and the walls were a pure white colour. I next began to draw the sink. It was elegant again it was white so I needed to extra pencils to colour it in. I began to add more detail to the walls drawing shells on them. Then I moved on to the bathtub; It was a shiny white and filled with water…. But something in me told be to colour it red. I shrugged and coloured it in thinking that the ceiling must be red and it was reflecting off the water. I drew a lady in the water with her hand hanging over the edge. My mind also told be to colour the hand in red. As I drew on I became more and more confused. Why was this red everywhere? I thought to myself. I added more to the floor a puddle of red leaking from this odd lady’s wrist. I added a knife to the picture it was in mid air. I guessed the lady had just dropped it. The last thing I added was a tattoo to the lady’s neck it was a heart with the name Skye on it. I dropped the pencil as I realised the lady I had drawn was my mom. It was like it had every been planned; At the same moment as I dropped my pencil I heard a noisy thump from the bathroom. I stood there frozen as terror rushed through every part of my body. I carefully slipped off the bed and walked to the bathroom with each step the fear inside me grew worse. By the time I reached the bathroom I thought I was going to die with fear. I placed my shaking hand on the door knob and twisted. What I saw then changed my life forever. My mom led there lifeless and just like in my picture there was a puddle of blood on the floor but in this room the knife had already hit the floor. That was the first time I knew I could draw the future.

Open Question: I don't trust my husband anymore (This is a long read)?

Please tell me what you think. My husband has never given me a reason to mistrust him. If he goes out at nights and stay until morning, once he calls me to let me know where he is going, I snooze like a baby. I am nice of paranoid however, as I have been severely hurt in the past, so every few months or so, I do go through his phone. This is something he is aware of. So, I went through his phone yesterday and realized that he had called a girl whose name I do not recognize. I went into the call history, and the first recorded call was one night, 2 weeks ago, when I was not home. I was overseas working, and he should have been spending quality time with our 10 month old, but here he is calling a girl after 8 pm for 3 minutes. The next four calls to her were placed two days ago. Three of the calls were a few seconds and he kept calling back immediately, which suggests these three calls went to voice mail. On the fourth call, they talked for a minute. I would have ignored the calls placed 2 days ago, but the first call, in the night, with me out of the country bugged me. I approached him and asked " Who is X?" He replied saying he doesn't know. So I asked 'Is this why you called her four times yesterday?" He repeated that he does not know her and I dropped it. I slept poorly last night and had a nightmare that he gave me an STD. He got up this morning talking to me like nothing happened so I ignored him. When I came home from work, he is still trying to start conversations with me, so again I ask "Who is X"? His explanation is, his phone book was full and he was deleting numbers, but didn't recognize who it is, so he called to find out if he knew the person. I had two questions for him: 1. If after 3 minuted of conversation, neither of you recognized the other, why didn't you delete her number then? (Remember, he was trying to free up space) His Response: "It is deleted now" 2. If a conversation two weeks ago revealed that you did not know each other, why did you call her back two days ago, and why be so persistent as to call her four times until she answered? His Response: "I don't know" I didn't marry this man for any other reason than I thought he loved me and I could trust him. Now that these things are in question, I am apartment hunting. I just cannot be with someone I don't trust, and I am okay being alone. Is leaving him being too hasty? Should I let it go? Should I try to talk to him again? What would I say? I am feeling very betrayed. I more or less believe that he originally called the number because he wasn't sure who it was. My trust is broken because, even though he didn't know this female, he kept the number and called again. Why would he call again if he weren't interested? Any why can't he explain to me why he kept her number and why he called her? I doubt he has cheated with her yet, but I definitely think he is paving the way to cheat. That's why I want to leave.

Open Question: Why don't people know Obamas book Dreams of My Father was about Communism and Marxism?

Obama is finishing his dad dreams to create a New World Order using a Communist / Marxist agenda. Why is that not seem like a PROBLEM to Americans? I sure don't want Islamic radical Jihadists being my neighbor and I don't want a WORLD GOVT! That won't work!

Open Question: Chapter Summaries for Romiette and Julio?

For summer reading i am reading Romiette and Julio, which i already did, however i thought about giving a plot synopsis (plot summary) for each chapter of the book, just so when we have our assignment in september i will be prepared with a summary of important information for each of the chapters included in the book. I have looked everywhere and can't seem to find a site that will give me that specified content. By the way, this is not Romeo and Juliet, this is a more modern book by Sharon M. Draper Called Romiette and Julio. Anyone who can help me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! :)

Open Question: How is this for the first chapter of my book?

This is the second part of my chapter. look http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20100729173929AAQ5tix to look the first part. . He had a icy grin and his eyes were different. The right eye was red and the left eye was completely black. When I stared at them I felt a icy shiver into my spine. I think that person was the bad himself. “I’m glad you showed up,” the bad man said with that same icy grin. “I’ve been waiting you for a long time.” “I’m the King of The Water. You don’t know what you’re dealing with,” the man with the blue shirt said. The bad man laughed. A icy dark laughter, “I am the King of the Extinction. You should be the one worrying about what you’re dealing with.” The man with the blue shirt walked toward the pool, “That’s it Echros. You will not terrify the needy innocent humans on this world.” The man then stood in front of the pool, raised his arms and . . . the whole pool raised up in the air! The grin melted off The bad man when he saw a gigantic wave coming after him. SPLASH The wave splashed the bad Man and then returned to the pool, like it was always there. “You will pay for this,” the bad man said angrily. “Goodbye, Echros,” the man with the blue clothes snapped his fingers and a shot of water grabbed the bad man to the pool. The man submerged and then a bubble came to the surface and popped. When I looked, the man was gone. I'm a twelve-year-old. I just wrote this like a hobby. Please, be honest. What do you think about my spelling, details, voice, etc. Thank you

Open Question: Question about Dolarhyde in Thomas Harris' "Red Dragon"?

In Thomas Harris' novel, the character Francis Dolarhyde is obsessed with the William Blake painting entitled "The Great Red Dragon and the lady Clothed with the Sun". However, in the 2006 film adaptation of the same title, the painting is suddenly changed to "The Great Red Dragon and the lady Clothed IN Sun". Same series of watercolour paintings, but I find this sudden change very odd since it's not mentioned ANYWHERE. In fact, the Wikipedia page on the Red Dragon novel lists the painting as being the same as the novel. I'm very confused, did Thomas Harris make an mistake? Or is Wikipedia wrong and the director of the movie conclude that "In Sun" would look better than "By The Sun"? The way Harris describes Dolarhyde's tattoo in the book sounds more like "In Sun" to me...

Open Question: Is he shy socially awkward or just desperate to get any girl ?

We met almost 8 months ago when my pal and I were out one night. He tried to talk to me , receive my attention etc. but I was drunk and mostly just focused and having fun with my pal .He was nice of dismissed (I felt awfull when my pal told me that he looked the whole night at me , but I seriously didn' t do it intentionaly). We ran into each other at the local supermarkt a month later , he was anxious when he entered came to look me in the eyes ( I didn't respond) and went to receive a drink and stood next to me at the line. He looked the whole time , he left infront of me but looked a few times behind , again I didn' respond so he went off.I didn' t know it was him untill a few hours later I remembered him. Again a month later I saw him at the library , he got his books , just looked once or twice and went off. Then about a few months later he had to cease for me with his bike as I crossed the road , he very quickly moved to another direction as soon as out eyes met. A few days later , same time , same road , I look him infront of me parked in a car.He looked intensly at my lowerbody then as I came closer again intensly to my eyes .His eyes nice of " lit up" , smiled but looked down to whatever he was doing with his hands . It has been almost 8 months ago , we`re both in our twenties and I don`t know how to deal with this. What does he want ? What was he doing with this hands ? sorry for the bad english , I`m french ;)
